Europe added more PV capacity in 2023 alone than in previous years. This whopping growth was driven by falling technology costs, increasing commitments to sustainability, such as the REPowerEU plan and the 10-year national energy and climate plans (NECPs), and regulatory frameworks favoring distributed solar in markets including Germany, Spain, Poland, Italy, etc., since the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine conflicts.
Europe’s continued push toward decarbonization will not progress effectively without the solar industry playing a central role. As the bloc seeks to balance efficiency gains with reduced carbon footprints, the adoption of advanced solar technologies, such as n-type cells and low-carbon modules, is gaining momentum.
However, this rapid growth also meets challenges. Supply chain volatility, price fluctuations, and geopolitical tensions—such as trade barriers imposed by the U.S. and ongoing challenges in global logistics—are creating uncertainties for solar manufacturers and developers across the region. As the world now shifts from p-type to n-type technology, Europe must adapt to a new roadmap for manufacturing and innovation to address these disruptions.
Introducing Webinar: Powering Europe's Solar Revolution: A Vision for 2028 and Beyond
As the first part of our webinar series this year, this webinar will delve into the most pressing issues facing the solar industry today, with a particular focus on Europe’s solar market outlook and its interconnectedness with global trends.
Scheduled for November 5, this online discussion covers the future of PV technology in Europe, including the transition to N-type modules, evolving low-carbon trends, and the dynamics shaping the PV supply chain.
Here’s what you can expect:
Agenda
- Europe's PV future: Module demand projections and global market synergies
Global PV demand surged from 2021-2024, with Europe as the second-largest market. This session examines Europe’s module demand, reliance on Chinese imports, and key EU policies. It will also explore emerging markets and long-term opportunities there.
- N-Type Technology Roadmap and Low-Carbon Trend in Europe
Speaker: Solar Analyst, Vikey Zhao
N-type technologies like TOPCon, HJT, and xBC are gaining market share, replacing p-type products. This session covers technological advances, module size trends in Europe, and the region’s push toward low-carbon manufacturing. Key European policies, including the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), are driving the industry’s green transformation.
- 2024 and beyond: PV supply chain, price trend, potential risks and opportunities
Speaker: Senior Solar Analyst, Dora Zhao
Europe faces stiff competition in solar manufacturing as global supply chains consolidate. This session reviews historical price trends, 2025 forecasts, and Europe’s evolving manufacturing capacity. It also explores risks like price volatility, squeezed margins, and supply chain vulnerabilities, offering strategies to manage challenges and seize opportunities.
- Panel Discussion: Opportunities and Challenges Ahead
A moderated panel of the speakers will conclude the event, providing a platform for diverse perspectives on the future of the solar industry in Europe and beyond. Sign up and let us know what you want our analysts to discuss here.
