InfoLink Consulting has released its Global Energy Storage Supply Chain Database

According to InfoLink’s Global Energy Storage Supply Chain Database, global energy storage cell shipments totaled 240.21 GWh in 1H25, up 106.1% YoY. In the first half of the year, the North American market saw a surge in early shipments driven by tariff concerns, while the Chinese market experienced front-loaded installations due to the removal of the “mandatory allocation” policy. With demand being pulled forward, the overall market defied seasonal trends, showing stronger-than-usual off-season performance and even greater peak-season momentum. In 2Q25, shipments reached 136.78 GWh, surpassing 4Q24 and setting a new all-time high.

Industry concentration remains high, with tiered top ten manufacturers

In 1H25, industry concentration remained high, with CR10 reaching 91.2%, roughly the same as in the previous quarters. CATL and Hithium ranked as the top two in global energy storage cell shipments. Key market themes include (1) full capacity and full sales; (2) tiered differentiation; (3) emerging players; and (4) capacity buildup.

  • Full capacity and full sales: Since 2Q25, monthly utilization rates at multiple leading cell manufacturers have exceeded 90%, approaching full capacity. Against this backdrop, spillover orders to second-tier manufacturers have become inevitable, presenting them with an opportunity to ride the momentum.
  • Tiered differentiation: The market share of the top six manufacturers is now significantly higher than that of mid- to lower-ranked players, with pronounced tiered differentiation within the top ten.
  • Emerging players: Benefiting from partnerships with leading system integrator clients, Sunwoda has seen a significant increase in shipments since the first half of the year, becoming a new entrant to the top ten. Meanwhile, with emerging players such as Cornex and China Automotive New Energy Technology having become major cell suppliers to multiple system integrators, these newcomers are expected to mount a strong challenge to the top ten in 2H25.
  • Capacity buildup: South Korean manufacturers have failed to make the top ten for the first time since the inception of this ranking. 2025 may mark the trough in their market share. However, as U.S. energy storage cell capacity from companies such as LGES is gradually released in 2H25 and multiple large-scale projects enter the delivery phase, South Korean manufacturers are expected to return to the top ten by the end of 2025 or in 1H26.

Utility-scale storage market continues to drive growth, with 500 Ah+ cells entering mass production

In 1H25, global utility-scale storage cell shipments reached 218.57 GWh, up 110.15% YoY. In the utility-scale segment, CATL and Hithium ranked as the top two, but the gap between the second- to fifth-ranked manufacturers remains narrow. Notably, CALB and EVE Energy were tied for third place, and the market shares of the second to fifth positions have alternated in the lead overall.

Some leading cell manufacturers already began commissioning production lines for 500 Ah+ cells in the second quarter, with mass production expected to begin in 2H25. For most manufacturers, however, the timeline is still concentrated in 1H26.

Small-scale storage market may have re-entered growth after two-year adjustment

In 1H25, global small-scale storage cell shipments reached 21.64 GWh, up 72.38% YoY. In 2Q25 alone, shipments exceeded 10 GWh — the highest single-quarter delivery in nearly three years — driven mainly by downstream restocking and a shipment surge in the Australian market. In the small-scale market, REPT Battero topped the ranking for the first time since the inception of this ranking. Competition in the small-scale storage sector remains intense, and the market may be entering a “Big 3” structure. Benefiting from early entry into the segment and high coverage among leading clients, REPT Battero, EVE Energy, and Great Power have achieved significantly higher market shares than other manufacturers.

Chinese-funded manufacturers maintain dominance as shipment share to non-China markets continues to rise

In 1H25, cell shipments to non-China markets reached 108.98 GWh, accounting for nearly 45% of the total markets. The top three manufacturers in energy storage cell shipments non-China markets were CATL, BYD, and CALB. At present, most non-China cell shipments from Chinese-funded manufacturers are achieved through the commissioning of non-China energy storage projects by leading Chinese system integrators. Among South Korean manufacturers, LGES ranked ninth, and its overseas market share is expected to gradually recover.

In 1H25, the energy storage cell market outperformed conservative expectations, showing an optimistic trend. At present, China has completed its shift to new growth drivers, with provinces promptly introducing independent energy storage policies to avoid policy gaps. In Europe, utility-scale projects in Central and Eastern Europe are proliferating, potentially signaling the eve of a market boom. In emerging markets, India has expanded its subsidy program, while multiple Southeast Asian countries have rolled out medium- to long-term plans, propelling the market rapidly from the 0–1 stage to the 1–10 stage. In view of these developments, InfoLink has revised its neutral shipment forecast for the year upward to 460 GWh.
