InfoLink has released its Global EV Battery Supply Chain Database.
According to the database, cumulative global EV battery cell shipments reached 1,275.58 GWh in 1Q26–3Q26. Q3 shipments surpassed 500 GWh, reaching 507.53 GWh.
EV battery market continues to shift as Chinese manufacturers remain strong and Japanese and South Korean peers show signs of weakness
CATL, BYD, LGES, Gotion High-Tech, and EVE Energy ranked as the top five suppliers by global EV battery cell shipments in the first three quarters of 2026. Their combined market share (CR5) was approximately 71%, broadly unchanged from 1H26.
The competitive landscape among the top 10 suppliers remains in flux, with shipment rankings shifting considerably from the previous quarter. Chinese manufacturers remain strong while Japanese and South Korean suppliers show signs of weakness. CATL and BYD continued to lead the rest of the field by a wide margin. LGES ranked third, with Gotion High-Tech close behind in fourth and within 0.5 percentage points of LGES’s market share. EVE Energy entered the global top five for the first time, supported by its passenger and commercial vehicle battery businesses and close ties with major customers such as BMW. Sunwoda’s shipments surged on the back of partnerships with emerging EV makers, lifting it to ninth place in its global top 10 debut. Meanwhile, the three leading Japanese and South Korean suppliers (LGES, Panasonic, and SK On) held a combined market share of approximately 10.5%, with no signs of a recovery so far.

*Note: The ranking is based on shipment volumes and includes both passenger and commercial vehicle applications.

Passenger EV battery rankings remain relatively stable at the top as prismatic LFP cells dominate and large cylindrical cell shipments rise
Global EV battery cell shipments for passenger vehicles reached 1,034.37 GWh in the first three quarters of 2026. The top five suppliers by shipments were CATL, BYD, LGES, Gotion High-Tech, and CALB. In Q3, CALB overtook Panasonic to enter the top five.
LFP and ternary lithium-ion cells (NMC/NCA) accounted for about 66% and 34% of shipments, respectively, with LFP's share edging up from the previous quarter. In terms of cell format, manufacturers should watch the large cylindrical segment. Leading suppliers have begun shipping 46-series large cylindrical cells in volume, and some battery makers could ship more than 10 GWh of these cells annually to a single customer.
Automakers are sourcing from multiple suppliers as battery manufacturers diversify their customer bases. Leading battery manufacturers tend to serve a broader range of customers and depend less on any single account, supporting steadier performance. Mid-tier suppliers tend to have more concentrated customer bases, so shifts in demand from a single customer can directly affect their overall market performance. A multi-supplier strategy has become essential for automakers, which are pursuing three main approaches. First, they place orders with mid-tier battery manufacturers to develop them as second and third sources of supply. Second, they strengthen partnerships by taking equity stakes in battery companies. Third, they gain greater control by development their own cell specifications and manufacturing battery packs in-house.

Commercial EV battery market shows a clear divide between supplier tiers as second-tier manufacturers seek to differentiate
Global EV battery cell shipments for commercial vehicles reached 240.21 GWh in the first three quarters of 2026. The top five suppliers were CATL, EVE Energy, CALB, BYD, and Gotion High-Tech. The leading ranks are stabilizing, with the top five holding a clear advantage over the rest of the market and distinct tiers emerging within the group. CATL led by a wide margin with a market share of over 45%. EVE Energy held firmly to second place, supplying major customers such as Farizon, SANY, and Foton. CALB, BYD, and Gotion High-Tech remained closely grouped by market share.
With competitive positions relatively entrenched in the passenger EV battery market, some second-tier battery manufacturers are focusing on commercial vehicles to differentiate themselves. Commercial vehicle cells now account for more than 50% of EVE Energy’s total cell shipments, over 40% of REPT Battero’s, and nearly 30% each at CALB and CORNEX. Meanwhile, Tesla has begun volume production and deliveries of the Semi, driving a marked increase in its in-house cell output. Manufacturers should monitor the pace of Semi deliveries.

*Note: Commercial vehicle statistics cover heavy-duty trucks, buses, construction machinery, and other applications.

Based on downstream automakers’ projected volumes and guidance from battery suppliers, InfoLink expects global EV battery cell shipments to reach 1,800 GWh in 2026, with shipments lower earlier in the year and higher later in the year. In Q4, the year-end export rush and automakers’ progress in implementing multi-supplier strategies remain key developments to watch.
