To provide a more systematic view of supply-demand trends across the lithium-ion battery supply chain, InfoLink Consulting has officially launched its Global EV Battery Supply Chain Database.
According to InfoLink’s Global EV Battery Supply Chain Database, driven by demand from both the passenger and commercial vehicle segments, global EV battery cell shipments surpassed 700 GWh in 1H26, reaching 768.33 GWh.
EV battery market: Two leaders pull ahead as Chinese suppliers remain strong and Japanese and South Korean rivals face increasing pressure
In 1H26, the top five suppliers by global EV battery cell shipments were CATL, BYD, LGES, Gotion High-tech, and CALB, with a combined market share of nearly 72%.
Among the top 10 suppliers, two leaders stood out, with Chinese suppliers maintaining a strong position and Japanese and South Korean rivals facing increasing pressure. CATL and BYD maintained a commanding lead; Gotion High-tech, CALB, and EVE Energy accelerated their catch-up across both passenger and commercial vehicle segments, forming a strong second tier. SVOLT sustained domestic growth in China and saw a significant increase in shipments outside China, rising to eighth place. REPT BATTERO maintained a solid base in commercial vehicles and continued to expand its passenger vehicle presence, entering the industry’s top 10. Three Japanese and South Korean suppliers ranked in the top 10, with a combined market share of nearly 10%, but their share showed no signs of stabilizing or recovering.

Passenger vehicle market: LFP maintains a solid position as the leading-supplier landscape remains stable
In 1H26, global battery cell shipments for passenger vehicles reached 622.07 GWh. The top five suppliers were CATL, BYD, LGES, Gotion High-tech, and Panasonic. The CR10 stood above 85%, with clear tiers among the top 10 suppliers. Their market shares broadly fell into four tiers: above 40%, above 13%, above 7%, and 2%–5%.
LFP and ternary lithium-ion batteries (NMC/NCA) accounted for approximately 65% and 35% of shipments, respectively, with LFP remaining dominant. After achieving broad penetration across the sub-RMB 150,000 price band, LFP is expanding rapidly into the mid-to-high-end market. The scaled-up production of 4C fast-charging and other solutions is further accelerating this move upmarket.

Commercial vehicle market: Clear supplier tiers as CATL leads by a wide margin
In 1H26, global battery cell shipments for commercial vehicles reached 146.26 GWh. The top five suppliers were CATL, EVE Energy, CALB, BYD, and Gotion High-tech. The top five held a clear market-share advantage over lower-ranked suppliers, with distinct tiers within the group. CATL continued to lead by a wide margin with a market share above 40%, while EVE Energy ranked firmly second with nearly 15%. CALB, BYD, and Gotion High-tech were more closely matched and may alternate in the lead from quarter to quarter.
By application, heavy- and light-duty trucks, along with light buses, continued to support growth. Battery-electric vehicles remain dominant in the new-energy commercial vehicle market, while plug-in hybrids and other powertrain technologies continue to have relatively low penetration rates. In 2H26, InfoLink will continue to monitor the industry’s progress in expanding the use of new-energy heavy-duty trucks from short-haul operations to trunk-line transportation.

Combined EV and energy storage shipments exceed 1 TWh as multiple suppliers pursue dual-pillar strategies
In 1H26, combined global EV and energy storage battery cell shipments reached 1,236.16 GWh. The top five suppliers were CATL, BYD, EVE Energy, CALB, and LGES. Based on the mix of EV and energy storage cell shipments among the top 10 suppliers, their strategies broadly fell into three categories: a dual focus on EV and energy storage, EV-led with energy storage as a secondary focus, and energy-storage-led with EV as a secondary focus. Most suppliers pursued both EV and energy storage as core strategic pillars.

Based on downstream automakers’ projected volumes and guidance from battery suppliers, InfoLink expects global EV battery cell shipments to reach 1,700 GWh in 2026, with shipments lower earlier in the year and higher later in the year. In 2H26, InfoLink recommends focusing on two key swing factors: tangible progress in the expansion of new-energy vehicles into markets outside China and the effectiveness of stimulus policies implemented in China and other markets. The market is expected to maintain steady growth.
